How trading works

The auction house

There is one, in Lucerna, and every player trades there. An offer is a buy or a sell: an item, how many, and a price each. What it offers is held the moment it is placed, the goods from your bag or the coins from your purse, so the other side never has to ask you for anything.

An offer trades at once with whatever is waiting on the other side at a price it accepts. A buy takes the cheapest sells first, a sell the highest buys, and the oldest first at the same price. Every trade is at the price of the offer that was waiting, so a buyer who offered more gets the difference back. Whatever does not trade waits, and never expires.

the seller pays 5% of each trade, rounded down

The fee goes to nobody. You may have 8 offers open at once, buying and selling together, and abort any of them for what it still holds. Offers from your own other character are skipped.

What you trade by placing an offer is yours at once. What trades while you are away waits at the house until you collect it, into your bag or straight into the bank. Enchanted gear is bound to you and cannot be offered, and vendor trash is bought only by vendors.

Vendors

A vendor buys anything for its vendor value, which is the floor under every price, and takes all your vendor trash in one go. Vendors in towns open below combat level 20 sell the weakest healing potion, most sell the bandages for the zones around them, and none sells anything a player makes. Vendors stand in Aldenfield, Candlemere, Ironspire, Lucerna, Silvenwood, Rushlight, Lastlight, Lanternfell, Tallowhearth, and Wickmere.

The bag and the bank

The bag holds 30 slots. Materials and trophies stack in one; gear, potions, bandages and elixirs take a slot each.

The bank holds 200 kinds of thing, however many of each. It is one bank with a door in several places, each opening onto the same shelves: Aldenfield, Candlemere, Ironspire, Lucerna, Silvenwood, The Tiltyard, Rushlight, Lastlight, Lanternfell, Tallowhearth, and Wickmere. Each character has their own.
